Lost Pet Tips:

  • Check your local animal shelters/pounds/Rescues to see if they may have your cat. We recommend contacting all local shelters/pounds/rescues within a 30 mile radius.

Circle of Friends Animal Shelter: 701-775-3732

Peterson Vet Clinic (if your pet is missing from East Grand Forks): 218-773-2401

Journey Home Animal Rescue: info@journeyhomeanimalrescue.org

  • Ask around your neighborhood You may have missed your cat leaving, but your neighbors may have seen something!

  • Call your cat’s microchip company and report them missing! Many microchip companies will reach out to the local shelters or vet clinics to alert them of your missing cat.

  • Create a flyer- Many microchip companies offer a free flyer feature, but you can also create a free flyer on PawBoost.

  • If your property is fenced, leave the gate open so your cat can get back into your yard.

  • Spread awareness using social media, PawBoost , or Petco Love Lost to post your missing cat for FREE, the community of Grand Forks has an excellent Facebook page that you can create a post on to raise awareness for your missing cat.

  • Leave out recently worn clothing, their litterbox, food, and water- something with your scent on it can be used to attract your cat to come back home-pillow cases or sheets would work too. The scent of your cat’s litterbox can also be used to attract your cat back home. By leaving out food and water, your cat is more likely to stay in the area if resources are readily available for them.

All pets that enter COFAS as strays will be posted on PetcoLoveLost, please contact us at [email protected] or call (701) 775-3732 if you recognize your pet.

If You See Your Cat Running Loose:
  • Do NOT chase your cat as they could be very skittish and frightened by being in an unfamiliar environment- this may cause them to run away from you.

  • Sit quietly and patiently while using a calm and gentle voice to comfort and coax your cat closer to you. Frantic or panicked voices may cause your cat to become more scared than they already are.

  • Bring a bag of treats or a can of wet food to entice your cat to come closer to you. You can also try shaking the bag or opening the can of wet food, the sound may draw your cat to you if they’re hiding nearby.

  • Place a box or create a safe space for your cat to sneak into for you to check often.
